The project was the largest single ecosystem restoration effort in U.S. history and the cornerstone of the state's own Coastal Master Plan.
Supporters saw Mid-Barataria as the centerpiece of Louisiana’s coastal restoration efforts, an ambitious plan to divert up to 75,000 cubic feet of water per second into Barataria Bay. Studies showed the project would build 21 square miles of land over the course of 50 years.
"Like the people who turned Louisiana from a mosquito-ridden wilderness into a hospitable haven, we'll adapt and make the most of what we have," KRVS general manager said.
