"American Idol" judges Luke Bryan, Lionel Richie and Carrie Underwood are returning for the hit music competition series' 24th season, its ninth season on ABC and Hulu. The trio shared the announcement in a YouTube video Monday.

In a back-to-school themed announcement video released on Aug. 25, Underwood, Bryan and Richie declared that "class is back in session" for prospective "American Idol" competitors. "The three judges are back for another amazing season of 'Idol' university," Richie said. "The only thing that's missing is you."
"You can audition from anywhere. I've had people audition from their jobs, from dorm rooms, in their cars," said Nancy Yearing, the senior casting producer for American Idol.
