Jamaica rushes to rebuild ahead of its busy season
Hurricane Melissa made landfall on the western side Jamaica on Oct. 28, 2025. And while many residents are still struggling to access clean drinking water and shelter, the island is worried that they will be delt a second major blow if they cannot rebuild the country's thriving tourist economy in time for December's peak travel season.
Carnival Paradise will visit Ocho Rios next week as a port stop, the first Carnival ship to return to Jamaica after Hurricane Melissa.
El huracán Melissa arrancó los techos de 120.000 estructuras cuando golpeó la semana pasada, afectando a unas 90.000 familias en la región occidental de la isla, según el último recuento de los daños causados por la tormenta.
Money raised through the GoFundMe account will be funneled through multiple vetted relief organizations in Jamaica, including Jamaica Red Cross, Holy Spirit Foundation, JAHJAH Foundation, DESSO Foundation, Paths and Gateways, Poor Relief Department and St. Elizabeth Municipal Corporation.
