An Afghanistan veteran and a pilot who once served in the Navy were two of three soldiers killed in an Army helicopter’s midair collision with a commercial jet over the Potomac River in Washington, D.

The names of two of the three soldiers who were on the U.S. Army helicopter that collided with an American Airlines flight on have been released.

The U.S. Army on Friday released the names of two of the soldiers killed when the military Black Hawk in which they were flying collided with a passenger jet, but said, in an unusual decision, that they were not releasing the third name at the request of the family.

Staff Sgt. Ryan Austin O’Hara was identified as one of the pilots in the Black Hawk helicopter that collided into American Airlines flight 5342 Wednesday night.

The Army identified the third soldier on the Black Hawk helicopter involved in the midair crash over the Potomac River Wednesday night as Capt. Rebecca M. Lobach.

The names of the two other soldiers were released Friday, but Lobach's name was withheld at the time at the request of her family.
