Pulse may not have been good, but by virtue of being Netflix’s first foray into medical procedurals — one of television’s longest-running and most-successful genres — Pulse was going to be precedent-setting one way or another.

The lights are out and doors have closed on The Residence, as Netflix has canceled the White House-set murder mystery after just one season. Starring Uzo Aduba as Cordelia Cupp, the “greatest detective in the world,” Shonda Rhimes ‘ whodunnit joins freshman medical drama Pulse on the chopping block of canceled shows.

Netflix has pulled the plug on two of its newer shows, Pulse and The Residence, after just one season. Even though both series had some early promise, they couldn’t gather enough attention or strong viewership to survive.
