Thailand cut electricity supplies on Wednesday to several areas in neighboring Myanmar that are home to sites at the center of a global, billion-dollar online scam industry.

Prime Minister Paetongtarn Shinawatra is slated to meet President Xi Jinping to discuss issues including the scam crisis.

Thailand has cut electricity, internet, and fuel supplies to five border locations in Myanmar, a senior Thai minister said on Wednesday. This comes as the Southeast Asian government steps up efforts to prevent fraud centres, which have become a growing security concern.

The measures were announced on the eve of PM Paetongtarn Shinawatra’s state visit to China, during which she is set to discuss anti-scam efforts with Xi Jinping.
