(JTA) — Yair Lapid and Naftali Bennett teamed up once before to unseat Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, striking an unusual power-sharing deal after Israel’s 2021 election that briefly ousted Netanyahu from power.
Israel’s Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said he recently had successful treatment for cancer and is “in excellent physical condition.”
But he said he chose not to reveal the diagnosis earlier so Iran would not spread “false propaganda”. On Friday, local time, Mr Netanyahu, 76, took to social media to reveal his annual health assessment.
Netanyahu said he delayed public disclosure “in order not to allow the Iranian terror regime to spread even more false propaganda against Israel.”
Naftali Bennett, a right-wing politician, and Yair Lapid, a centrist, will merge parties for a vote later this year.
