Two headed goals by Tottenham Hotspur's Micky van de Ven helped his side to a 3-0 Premier League win over Everton on Sunday as the visitors became the first team to win in the Merseyside club's new stadium.
Van de Ven’s second goal, which arrived in first-half stoppage time, was even sweeter. The Netherlands international lurked at the back post unmarked. He then ran behind Jake O’Brien along the goal line and darted in front of Jordan Pickford to connect with Pedro Porro’s curling ball.
Goalkeeper Jordan Pickford said Everton is a "special club" to him and the "dark days are behind us" after signing a new deal. The 31-year-old has put pen to paper on a four-year contract to extend his long stay with the Toffees to 2029. Since joining from Sunderland in 2017, Pickford has made 326 appearances for Everton in all competitions.
Entering the game off the back of a draw with Monaco in the Champions League, which itself followed a 2-1 Premier League defeat against Aston Villa, it did not take Thomas Frank's team long to break the deadlock. From a corner, Micky van de Ven rose highest to nod the ball beyond Jordan Pickford.
