West Michigan cleans up after flooding, heavy hail
Piles of hail pellets lined some Grand Rapids streets Wednesday, the day after severe thunderstorms swept through the region.
Flooding from recent rainfall has affected areas from Grand Rapids to Meridian Township and beyond, creating problems for drivers, homeowners, and local workers tasked with cleanup.
Severe storms slammed parts of the Midwest on March 10 and 11, leaving behind a trail of uprooted trees and smashed cars.
The storms also produced exceptionally large hail. One 6-inch diameter hailstone measured in Kankakee, Illinois, may be considered for a new state record.
The city of Chicago and immediate surrounding area were not affected by destructive and deadly tornadoes Tuesday night, but heavy and noisy storms did leave several areas flooded.
Cleanup efforts continue across Three Rivers five days after an EF-2 tornado tore through the city.
