Hillsdale Hospital is hosting a blood drive with the American Red Cross, according to a community announcement. The drive is set for 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 25, at Hillsdale United Brethren, 1300 S. Hillsdale Road, Hillsdale. All blood types will be accepted.

The American Red Cross is offering an incentive to give blood in February to counter the current shortage. Anyone who gives blood through Feb. 28, will get a $15 e-gift card to a merchant of choice. See RedCrossBlood.org/Flurry for details.

Since January numerous blood drives have been called off nationally due to severe winter weather and it has created a shortage, according to the American Red Cross. As a result donors are being urged to give blood or platelets in February to help build up the supply.

The American Red Cross says since January hundreds of blood drives have been canceled due to severe weather or wildfires. Due to these cancelations the American Red Cross has missed out in nearly 16,000 blood donations.
