Forrest Whitley never established himself as reliable part of the Houston Astros ' pitching staff. Houston's former top prospect will now look to become a Major League mainstay with a different franchise after a trade early Friday afternoon.

The Rays on Friday acquired right-hander Forrest Whitley from the Astros for cash considerations. Whitley, a former first-round Draft pick in 2016, was designated for assignment by Houston on June 8.

The Astros have made a trade to the Tampa Bay Rays including a pitcher that had been struggling mightily this season.
