With the NBA world buzzing about Ja Morant’s obvious discontent in Memphis, teams are starting to make their intentions known regarding inquiries. According to
Multiple teams are reportedly keeping tabs on Memphis Grizzlies guard Ja Morant and the possibility of him being made available for trade.
Ja Morant revealed that one person who hasn’t turned his back on him during this difficult situation is Dallas Mavericks star Kyrie Irving.
However, we might need to pump the brakes. In a recent article for Sports Illustrated, NBA insider Chris Mannix poured some serious cold water on a potential Morant trade, as he suggested that the Grizzlies still view Morant as a franchise cornerstone and are looking to build around him, not trade him.
The high-flying Morant has been with Memphis for his entire NBA career (since 2019) and remains under contract through 2028. But with the Grizzlies also struggling at 3-5 on the early season, the partnership between the two sides is looking tenuous at best right now.
ESPN’s Marc J. Spears reported on “NBA Today” that at least four executives told him that they aren’t interested in trading for Ja Morant. One coach even shared that he’s unsure if he wants to coach a player like the 26-year-old guard.
On Monday, Memphis Grizzlies guard Ja Morant returned from a one-game suspension for "conduct detrimental to the team." The suspension came after a Friday night loss to the Los Angeles Lakers in which he appeared (quite) disengaged on the court and reportedly had a confrontation of some kind with Grizzlies head coach Tuomas Iisalo.
