Former President George W. Bush said former Vice President Dick Cheney will be remembered as a “patriot who brought integrity, high intelligence, and seriousness of purpose to every position he held.”

After his death at 84 on Tuesday, he will be remembered for his outsized influence in Washington, along with his ironclad conviction, willing to break with the president when he deemed it necessary.

“For decades, Dick Cheney served our nation, including as White House Chief of Staff, Wyoming’s Congressman, Secretary of Defence, and Vice President of the United States,” the statement said.
