Despite lofty expectations, the Orioles have been one of the worst teams in baseball this year. They got off to a slow start with injuries being a major storyline early on, but they have not been able to right the ship enough at this point to be in the playoff picture.

The Orioles are at the bottom of the AL East at 27-40, 15 games back of the division-leading New York Yankees. After sweeps of the Chicago White Sox and the Mariners, Baltimore has lost four of six against the Athletics and Detroit Tigers.
The Baltimore Orioles have activated catcher Gary Sánchez from the IL, and in a corresponding move, optioned former Stanford Cardinal Maverick Handley to Triple-A Norfolk. Sànchez was placed on the 10-day IL back on April 28 with right wrist inflammation.
