SAN SALVADOR, El Salvador (AP) — Salvadoran President Nayib Bukele proposed carrying out a prisoner swap with Venezuela on Sunday, suggesting he would exchange Venezuelan deportees from the United States his government has kept imprisoned for what he called “political prisoners” in Venezuela.

El Salvador President, Nayib Bukele, on Sunday, proposed a prisoner swap which would see Venezuelans deported from the United States to his country exchanged for “political prisoners” in Venezuela. Bukele suggested this in comments directed at Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro.

El Salvador President Nayib Bukele has proposed a high-stakes prisoner swap with Venezuela, offering to return 252 Venezuelans deported from the United States and detained in El Salvador in exchange for the release of an equal number of political prisoners held by President Nicolás Maduro’s government.
