Balkh[a] is a town in the Balkh Province of Afghanistan. It is located approximately 20 kilometres (12 mi) to the northwest of the provincial capital city Mazar-i-Sharif and approximately 74 kilometres (46 mi) to the south of the Amu Darya and the Afghanistan–Uzbekistan border.

The Bala Hisar, or “High Fort,” of Balkh is an ancient citadel that once served as the city’s primary defense against invaders. Overlooking the surrounding landscape, the ruins of this fortress offer visitors a glimpse into the military strategies of ancient empires.

Balkh (Dari and Pashto: بلخ, IPA: [balx]) is one of the 34 provinces of Afghanistan, located in the north of the country. It is divided into 15 districts [6] and has a population of about 1,509,183, [7] which is multi-ethnic and mostly a Persian-speaking society. The city of Mazar-i-Sharif is the capital and largest city of the province.

Balkh, village in northern Afghanistan that was formerly Bactra, the capital of ancient Bactria. A settlement existed at the site as early as 500 BCE, and the town was captured by Alexander the Great about 330 BCE. After its capture by Timur, it was rebuilt early in the 15th century.

Bala Hisar which is also known as the walls of Balkh is an ancient place that goes back to the time of the Great Alexandar when Bactria was at its zenith. At the time Balkh was the epicenter of the Bactrian Kingdom. Bala Hisar has a history of over 2500 years.

Qala-e-Murghab: This is a 19th-century fort located in the heart of Mazar-i-Sharif. It was built by the ruler of the city at the time to protect against invading forces. The city is also home to numerous museums, bazaars, and other cultural attractions that offer a glimpse into the region's rich history and traditions.
