On December 19, 1991, Henry Rollins and his best friend Joe Cole were walking up the steps of Rollins's rented house on Brooks Avenue in Venice, California, when two armed men ambushed them. The robbers took $50, then forced Rollins and Cole to lie face down on the porch. Cole was shot in the head and killed instantly. Rollins escaped by sprinting into the dark. Rollins and Cole had been roommates and inseparable friends for ten years. Cole was 30. The robbers were never identified or arrested.
