Fast moving, energetic halo CME produced by X1.8 solar flare at 01:55 UTC (Oct 9). A moderate (S2) radiation storm is in progress as particles continue to stream past Earth. Impact expected within 48 hours and could trigger a severe geomagnetic storm. | Space Weather by SolarHam

Here is updated video of the M9.6 solar flare around AR 2993. First analysis is that a potential CME is likely, however probably not very impressive. Any ejected material may be directed to the north and not towards Earth. A final update will be provided once Earth facing coronagraph imagery becomes available. Here is updated video courtesy of LASCO C2 and C3 showing a large and fast moving coronal mass ejection (CME) this morning following a major solar flare off the farside of the sun. If only it had been Earth directed, sky watchers would be having a field day within 48 hours with bright aurora. | Space Weather by SolarHam

Incoming coronagraph imagery by GOES-19 CCOR confirms a halo CME is associated with the long duration M2.7 solar flare near center disk at 20:02 UTC (Aug 30). It appears to be Earth directed and I would expect a passage past Earth within 48-72 hours. A minor (G1) or perhaps even a moderate (G2) geomagnetic storm watch may be issued. More to follow. Attached is video courtesy of the Solar Dynamics Observatory (SDO) capturing a long duration M1.8 solar flare around region 2473 earlier today peaking at 12:45 UTC. The event was associated with a Type IV radio emission, along with a 10cm Radio Burst (TenFlare) lasting 45 minutes and measuring 370 solar flux units (SFU). A partial halo coronal mass ejection (CME) became visible soon after in the latest coronagraph imagery courtesy of LASCO C2 and C3 (also in video). Most of the plasma appears to

X-Flare video and "raining" plasma. Here are two quick videos by GOES-16 SUVI 131 and 304. In the first video by SUVI 131, the rapid X-Flare is captured. It does not appear that much of a CME was produced by this flare, and if so, it would likely be narrow and directed to the east. In the second video by SUVI 304, plasma appears to be raining down back towards the Sun beyond the southeast limb. This is also known as coronal rain. Coronal rain occurs when plasma rises up the magnetic loop and the

In my previous post I reported about a large coronal mass ejection (CME) off the southeast limb. Upon second look, it was actually two separate events. The first, slower moving CME began to emerge from behind the southeast limb after 18:00 UTC (Jan 23). The second and faster moving CME became visible after 22:30 UTC and was associated with an eruption in the vicinity of a wide plage area now in view. In both cases, they appear to be directed away from Earth and should have little to no impact. #

A prominence located off the southeast limb which had been spinning around the past 12 hours finally lifted off. Although some of the plasma appears to have been reabsorbed, a CME is now becoming visible in the latest coronagraph imagery courtesy of LASCO. Other than putting on a show for solar observers, it should be directed away from our planet with no impacts expected. Video courtesy of GOES SUVI. SolarHam.com | Space Weather by SolarHam

Here is a fantastic video by GOES SUVI capturing an eruption behind the southwest limb on Friday. This resulted in a southerly directed coronal mass ejection (CME) that is traveling away from our planet. SolarHam.com | Space Weather by SolarHam

Coronagraph imagery courtesy of LASCO C2/C3 is now available. A bright, fast moving halo coronal mass ejection (CME) is seen leaving the sun following the X9.3 event earlier today and does indeed have an Earth directed component. Because of the sunspots location now off center in the southwest quadrant, the bulk of the plasma cloud is traveling to the west. The Earth directed flank is still significant enough to almost make a geomagnetic storm a certainty by Friday. Sky watchers should be alert
