Thousands of people have fled their homes after a volcano erupted in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) last night. The country’s government urged residents to evacuate as lava flowed from Mount Nyiragongo near the eastern city of Goma, destroying everything in its path. Many people were taken by surprise and left their homes on foot, carrying mattresses and other belongings.
