MY LIMITED EXPERIENCE USING PINUS RADIATA BARK FOR TANNING.... I've read that radiata bark can contain 18% tannin in its native country where it is known as Monterey pine. I've also read an article (but couldn't find it again) that suggested NZ grown radiata was found to contain maybe 16% tannin. Good news. When I first boiled the bark I boiled it for up to an hour. The liquor turned an encouraging colour. However, after I read about barkometers and specific gravity I wanted to try to measure my
